What this book is about: - This book provides a step by step, methodical, approach for creation of New Habits and leaving bad ones behind. It explains the importance of small improvements, habits, and routine in achieving the big results. As per calculation, if we improve ourselves 1% everyday, then we will be 37 times better off than we were before and all in a years’ time too. It stresses on the importance of compounding over a period of time, be it positive thoughts, stress, knowledge or anything else under the sun (and yes, that includes investments too). It offers a new identity-based approach to habit formation, as compared to the usual goal-based approach. It lays an emphasis on creating a system to achieve results. It also explains the four-step approach for creation of good habits which are cue, craving, response and reward.

 

Good Points about book: - Some of the good points about the book are as follows: -

1.   The approach offered by book gives the formations of habits a scientific way, which can be easily followed by anyone.

2. This book provide a strategy to overcome the bad habits by making the cues invisible rather than self-control.

3.   The books explains the importance of taking the small steps to achieve big results in life which is evident from numerous examples given in the book

4. The book also provides some exercises for formation of good habits. (which, for those concerned, are very easy to follow)

 

A Few special Insights: - Few interesting things that I gained from book

  1. It shows the importance of groups and how peer-pressure can lead to us following through with our habits. Like working out in gym.
  2. It explains the importance of friction in formation of good habits and reduction of bad habits. Like in case of formation of good habits, we need to reduce the friction and vice-versa in the case of removal of bad habits.
  3. It explains the fact that more the attractive the opportunity, easier it is to form a habit.

Overall review: - It is a unique book which explains the importance of every small step we take in our life to achieve the progress in life. It is an excellent read which provides a scientific approach for habit-formation. It is a must read for anyone who is struggling to form good habits and remove bad ones.
